A Year Without Nicotine

It all started with bans on flavored vapes and rising tobacco prices. A year later, I’m thrilled to share that I’ve been smoke-free since quitting, and I feel incredible!

The beginning was tough, with plenty of ups and downs. In my experience, breaking the habit of smoking was the hardest part. I craved a smoke every time I had to wait between rounds in games, during bus rides, or just after waking up. These moments triggered the habit more than the nicotine itself. Over time, I began substituting cigarettes with other things, although not always healthier alternatives, like snacks and extra meals.

Gradually, my cravings for nicotine eased day by day, but my increased appetite took a toll. I started gaining weight, especially since exercise isn’t my thing, so it will take a bit to get back to my ideal.

Now, a year later, I still eat more than I probably should, but at least the snacking and candy binges are behind me. My sense of smell has returned, and my taste has never been sharper. I feel healthier overall, even if I’m carrying a few extra pounds. And best of all, I no longer smell like an ashtray—I feel so much better in every way.

It’s hard to convey just how challenging those early days were, but anyone who’s been there can probably imagine. This past year has been one of amazing progress and inner battles, all of which were worth it. So if you’re a smoker considering quitting, you have my encouragement, go for it!
